I learned to ski when I was three years old at Badger Pass just south of Yosemite National Park. My favorite skiing is deep powder on fat skis — off-piste with interesting features and things to jump off. We've had Ikon Passes for Mammoth for the last 10 years. But our favorite thing is taking ski resort road trips and hitting as many mountains as we can.
I even spent a winter in Jackson, Wyoming working as a liftie running the Apres Vous and Teewinot chairs. Cold as hell, unbelievably fun — living cheap with my cousin Grant, skiing the steep and deep terrain of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort most days. Cheap pitchers at the Town Meeting every Tuesday, two-stepping at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, and Sundays at the Stage Coach in Wilson. That was peak living.
The Sprinter Van Ski Road Trip
A couple years back, Andrea my wife, Marley our Yorkie, and I built out a 2WD Sprinter van and spent a month hitting our favorite ski destinations. Starting at Mammoth Mountain, then Jackson Hole, then Steamboat Springs, then up into the fabled Canadian Powder Highway.
We hit amazing resorts like Whitewater, Red Mountain, and made a run at Revelstoke at the top of the Powder Highway. Quirky ski towns, serious deep powder. However, a 2WD Sprinter with chains isn't ideal for an extended winter trip — we've since upgraded to a 170 4x4 for future expeditions.
Teaching the Kids
Andrea is one of the better skiers I've ever seen — better than most of my guy friends, which is awesome. Our kids Kyler and Riley are now learning at June Mountain. These family sessions and road trips are direct inspiration behind our ski t-shirt and snow gear designs.
Some personal favorites born from these adventures:
- I Heart Big Dumps — for the powder addict who lives for big storm cycles.
- Freshies for Breakfast Ski Beanie — for the early riser who earns first tracks.
- Ski Like a Girl — inspired by watching Andrea charge terrain most guys won't look at twice.
Come find us for deep powder turns at Mammoth — or reach out if you're planning your own powder highway run.
