If you haven't gotten the memo yet: I love riding most things with two wheels. Every year I head to the Outdoor Retailer show in Denver, Colorado for my logistics business — and since the drive goes through some of the most epic singletrack territory in North America, I always build a proper trip around it.
Mountain Biking and Dirt Biking in Crested Butte
First stop: Crested Butte and neighboring Gunnison — affectionately called "Gunny." 750+ miles of epic singletrack. Surprisingly, most of these trails are also rideable on dirt bike, which makes dirt biking in Colorado (especially on a KTM 500 EXC) legitimately epic.
My favorite MTB trails in Crested Butte: Teocalli Ridge, 401 Trail, Strand Hill, Dr. Park Trail. For dirt biking in Gunnison: Lily Pond, Star Trail, Rattlesnake at Hartman Rocks. Green ribbons of high alpine singletrack through river valleys — coming from California, I almost feel guilty riding it on moto. Almost.
Jackson Hole MTB and a Detour Through Wyoming
After the OR show, I head to Jackson, Wyoming — my old stomping grounds from my days as a liftie at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Jackson's trail network has grown considerably since my liftie days. The town itself still delivers: live music at the Mangy Moose, two-stepping at the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar, cold pitchers at the Wort Hotel. Good times, always.
Lake Tahoe Mountain Biking to Close Out the Trip
Last stop: Lake Tahoe — arguably the best singletrack in California (I'm biased, but I'll defend it). Favorites: Western States Trail to Watson Lake, Armstrong Trail into Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, and Jackass to Donkey Town out of Truckee. Plus floating the Truckee River and catching summer concerts in the evenings.
2,000 miles later and several killer mountain towns deep, it's time to head back to San Diego for longboard surfing season. These trips are directly behind our mountain bike t-shirt designs — the designs start as trail memories, drone screenshots, and sketches on napkins at the Wort Hotel.
Stay stoked out there,
