Mission Glamis Sand Dunes: Raptor 700R, Massive Bowls & Camp Stoke

I hadn't ridden quads in the dunes in 20-30 years. This year I decided to get a new Raptor 700R sport quad and start hitting Glamis Dunes — one of the largest sand dune systems in the United States, just 2.5 hours from San Diego.

First Day in the Dunes

I hadn't even properly broken in the new Raptor before the first day at Glamis, so I took it easy for the first couple of hours. But once you get a feel for how the dunes work — the massive bowls, the steep walls, the soft transitions — you realize you need real speed to carry through them. Sooner than later I was gripping it in 4th and 5th gear, wide open, climbing walls I probably had no business being on that first day.

The Yamaha Raptor 700R is one of the most powerful sport quads on the market. Once I felt comfortable pushing it, there was plenty of torque to climb almost any wall Glamis threw at me. My friend Aaron's crew goes to Glamis annually and they showed me the spots — long daily rides, campfire beers, fireworks, the full Glamis experience.

The Glamis Lifestyle and Shirt Ideas

These trips are exactly the kind of memories that generate new t-shirt concepts. If you're into quad riding, dune riding, or desert adventure, check out our adventure lifestyle t-shirts — the designs start in moments like these. If you're ever looking to shred some sand at Glamis, hit me up.

Stay stoked out there!
