San Diego has been getting a lot of rain lately. I decided to go chase some hero dirt at McCain Valley OHV and do some tripod filming of my favorite rock features — those features, photos, and videos are the direct baseline for our dirt bike and E-Moto t-shirt designs.
Post-rain McCain dirt is phenomenal — that moist clay grips tires in a way that dry desert hardpack just can't replicate. I basically had the whole place to myself since I was playing hooky on a Friday. Reason #2098 for running my own businesses.
McCain Valley: Still One of SoCal's Best Kept Secrets
If you haven't ridden McCain Valley, you're missing one of the best kept secrets in Southern California dirt biking. Technical rock features, dry riverbed singletrack connectors, and enough variety to build a full day loop. I've ridden it on the KTM 500 EXC and now on my eRide Pro SS 2.0 electric dirt bike — it rides differently on E-Moto (you can actually hear the trail), but it's excellent either way.
